Links
On this page I have added some links I have found very useful in running as well as well as for GPS related topics. If you have suggestions for links, either for your own site or page or a site you know then let me know.
- SportTracks
- Zone Five Software has made a program called SportTracks. It is a exercise logbook software that I use in combination with my Garmin Forerunner 305. It also support other various GPS devices. There are a lot of other software product available on the market that has similar features, but SportTracks just does it better. For more information on my contribution for SportTracks please go here.
- Geocaching.com
- If you don't know what Geocaching is and own a GPS device then please checkout Geocaching - it is amazing :)! At first you may (as I did) find the idea a somewhat ridiculous: You run around on treasure hunt from coordinate to coordinate and try to solve small puzzles. But you will (I suspect) find that these treasure hunts really is a great opportunity to spend a couple of hours outside solving mysteries :). A good start at Geocaching is to sign up at Geocaching.com, tell them where you live, and then you will be able to browse the geocaches near you.
- Garmin's Onto Fitness and On the Trail
- I know that this may seem as a bit of an advertisement for Garmin, but I assure you that I am not being paid by them :). These pages offer a nice overview of the various GPS devices garmin provides for outdoor use for running, cycling, trekking, and even GPS devices for dogs. Of course, other vendors produce GPS devices for outdoor use, but in my opinion Garmin's has some of best products, although not the cheapest, around today.
- Polar Running and Polar Cycling
- Polar make very good watches for recording heart rate, cadence and so on, and they actually started to make GPS units for their watches. Although I am pro Garmin, I think that Polar actually makes some really nice looking watches, which you can use as an everyday watch. This is simply not possible with the big Forerunner 305 I use.
- Suunto
- Suunto I don't know so well. There watches sure looks nice, but I have no idea how well their GPS supported watches work. One of their GPS watches is the Suunto X9i. If nothing else it can definitly compete with Garmin and Polar in style.
